(Baton Rouge) - The Texas State Bobcats opened up the 2010 campaign with a 23-5 road victory over LSA South Divisional foe LSU. The Bobcats spread the scoring throughout the game as 11 different Texas State players notched goals with 18 of the 23 goals coming off an assist.

Texas State was led in scoring by Senior Attack Matt Malcolm   who finished with 5g and 5a. Asa Spain   began where he left off in 2009 with a solid performance playing a little over three quarters for the Bobcats.

The game was marred with numerous penalties on both sides, with Texas State notching 15 minutes in the box.

"I was proud of the effort on both sides of the ball and the efficiency on the offensive end today," noted Head Coach Chris Park. "We played very well at times, but still have areas to improve on. The guys were excited to get the 2010 season off to a good start, but they are ready to get back to practice and continue to work each day to get better."

The Bobcats return to action at home this Saturday to take on LSA South Divisional opponent Rice at the Bobcat Soccer Complex at 1 p.m.

SAN MARCOS, TX--In anticipation of the upcoming season, the Texas State Men's Lacrosse team cut their holiday break short this year to begin Spring practices early. 

In the past two weeks, practices have taken on a new level of intensity, as the bobcats welcome new assistant coach Michael McGehee.  Mike is back to help out after a successful 4-year playing career at Texas State. In addition to working with the midfield, he has been implementing new strength and conditioning workouts to help prepare the Bobcats for a season that will test their endurance.

The Bobcats open their schedule with LSA south divisional opponent LSU, on February 7th in Baton Rouge.  It will be the first competition in a twelve game schedule that will lead to the LSA playoffs, where the Bobcats hope to advance to the conference championship game.

The 2009-2010 Bobcat lacrosse team kicked off the fall with a 13-11 victory over the University of Texas Longhorns.  Both teams played their benches through, but everyone played hard.  No player had more than two goals, but several Bobcat rookies were impressive in their debuts.

Texas State will be in action Sunday October 25.  The Bobcats will participate in a one day, round-robin, tournament at Southwestern University in Georgetown.  Texas State will take on Southwestern University, The University of Texas, and Sam Houston State.

Texas State Lacrosse invites you to join us for this year’s alumni weekend, taking place November 7^th and 8^th .  We will open the weekend Saturday morning at Quail Creek Country Club for our annual Bobcat Classic Golf Tournament.  This fundraiser will benefit Texas State Lacrosse as they look to raise funds for travel and equipment for the 2010 season.  A tournament sign-up sheet is available online at the team website (www.txstate.ialax.com), as well as sponsorship information, etc.  Tee-off will be at 8:30 AM that morning. Your entry fee guarantees a round of golf, cart, range balls, lunch, and drinks for those who are of age. The tournament will feature a silent auction following the round of golf as well outstanding prizes for longest drive, closet to the pin, etc. 

The following Sunday is when the real action takes place, as Texas State faces off against a daunting alumni team.  Both benches will have an impressive line-up this year, setting the stage for thrills on both sides of the field.  The starting whistle will blow at 12 o’clock PM, so show up early to cheer on bobcats old and new as they battle it out for this year’s highly coveted bragging rights.
