Bobcats Move on to Conference Final Four

Box Score

Apr. 18, 2010

(San Marcos, TX) – The Lone Star Alliance Quarterfinal South Division playoff game was moved to San Marcos due to inclement weather that postponed the game from Saturday to Sunday.  The Bobcats jumped out quickly with a man up goal early in the first quarter by Matt Malcolm , but it was the Aggies who controlled the tempo and the game in the first half, taking a 4-2 lead to the locker room at halftime.

Texas State got on the board quickly in the second half with an early possession goal by Senior Kevin Clark   bringing the Bobcats within one.  The second half would see the Aggies hold a two-goal lead with the Texas State periodically cutting the contest to a one game margin.  With four minutes to play in the fourth quarter the Bobcats were able to tie the game with a goal from senior midfielder Mike Zdonczik .

The Aggies had a man up opportunity with six seconds left in the fourth quarter, but due to no possession at the end of regulation, a face off ensued.  The Bobcats were able to control the opening face but were unable to kill the penalty.  When play was back to even strength a failed clear ended up in the hands of Zdonczik of the Bobcats who took the ball coast to coast, dodging free of a double team to burry the game winner for Texas State, making the final score, 9 to 8.

Texas State will advance to the Lone Star Alliance Final Four and take on the Mustangs from SMU in the semifinals this Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. at Austin Westlake Stadium.
